BT-GY 6053 Introduction to Neuroscience for Biotechnologists3 Credits The understanding of brain function represents a unique challenge by virtue of the tremendous complexity of neural circuits and their role in controlling behavior. This course is designed to provide graduate students with a comprehensive introduction to the basic mechanisms of brain function. It covers the basic mechanisms of neuronal excitability, how neuronal function is connected to cellular structures, how neurons act as elements of networks and how malfunctions lead to mental and neurological disorders. The goal is to provide graduate students a foundation of knowledge which will guide them in their decision to enter and navigate the vast field of neurobiology.
