STS-UY 2444 History and Philosophy of Internet Technology4 Credits This course investigates implementations of internet technologies. We will examine the founding premises of the internet, uncovering the assumptions about culture, policy objectives, and ideals of practitioners, both before and after the worldwide web. The course investigates typical claims about the internet, such as its capability to inculcate democracy, and also the development of the attendant hardware and software infrastructure.
Prerequisite(s): Completion of first year writing requirements Note: Satisfies a Humanities and Social Sciences Elective.
