CE-GY 7883 Urban Informatics for Smart, Sustainable Cities3 Credits This course is designed to give science, engineering and quantitative social science students from all backgrounds an opportunity to apply informatics and data science approaches to the challenges of urban sustainability and emergency management, ones that need to be met by a convergence of expertise and knowledge from engineering, public policy, social science, and data science.
Students will work with data from NYC and other cities on a range of problems. Students interested in this course should have knowledge of programming (Python, R, MatLab) or relevant statistical packages (STATA, SAS, SPSS). Knowledge of visualization tools (Carto, D3) and/or GIS is beneficial, but not required. Interest in urban sustainability, urban infrastructure, emergency management, and the link between society and technology in the urban context.
Prerequisite(s): Graduate-level equivalent course in statistics. Weekly Lecture Hours: 3
