STS-UY 2334 The Invention of Race4 Credits This course traces the history of science as it shapes race into a divisive standard for regulating and altering the shape of the population. Topics include the Enlightenment and the emergence of race as a science, eugenics and its lasting effects (actuarial science, mortgage policies, sentencing and paroling), and the fractured relationship between race and medicine.
